I am Hein van Dijk, born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I studied clarinet and schoolmusic at the Amsterdam Music Lyceum.
After a second study of choir directing, I took bassoon lessons and became almost immediately first bassoonist in the Frysk Orchestra in the north of the country.
The next year I moved to the Utrecht Symphony Orchestra to play bassoon and contrabassoon, but eventually played contrabassoon and bassoon in the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra (NedPho) in Amsterdam for more than 25 years.
In the meantime I studied composition with Daan Manneke.
As a composer I prefer the figurative music: in a short time span of suggestion, through development, the music progresses towards a conclusion.
I am married to Mira Chendler and have two children, dr. ir. Diana and prof.dr. David.
